The Language of Resonance
Five terms that describe the inner and outer experience of working with The Pattern. A vocabulary for the practice.
4 min readEvery practice needs a vocabulary. Not jargon — a precise shared language that lets you name what you are experiencing accurately, so you can work with it.
These five terms form the core of how COGNÂE describes internal states and the experience of working with The Pattern.
Frequency
Your current state of being. Not just mood — the full quality of how you are vibrating at a given moment. Your level of clarity, aliveness, or noise. Are you running on clarity and intention, or on anxiety, distraction, and automatic behaviour?
Frequency is not fixed. It shifts. The purpose of the Pattern is partly to bring your frequency into conscious awareness, and from there, into deliberate alignment.
Resonance
The experience of harmony. When your frequency aligns with a person, a place, a decision, or an action — you feel it. The sense of rightness, of being on the correct path, of energy moving without friction.
Resonance is not always comfortable. Sometimes the thing that resonates most clearly is the hard conversation, the difficult correction, the choice that costs something in the short term but aligns with what you actually are.
Dissonance
The experience of misalignment. The friction that arises when your actions contradict your values, when you are in an environment that is wrong for you, when you are disconnected from yourself or others.
Dissonance is signal, not failure. It is the body and mind registering that something is out of tune. The correct response to dissonance is not to numb it or explain it away — it is to locate its source.
Dissonance tells you where the gap is. It is not a problem. It is information.
Coherence
The state of a system — a person, a relationship, a community — where all parts are resonating harmoniously. Coherence is what it feels like when your thinking, values, actions, and environment are aligned.
It is the goal. Not permanent happiness. Not absence of difficulty. But the state of being fundamentally integrated — where what you believe, what you say, and what you do are the same thing.
Attunement
The practice of consciously seeking coherence. Attunement is the active process — through the Pattern, through breath, through honest self-assessment — of bringing yourself back into alignment with what you actually are and what you are here to do.
Every run of the Pattern is an act of attunement. Every pause, every honest gap-naming, every correction made and followed through — these are all attunement.
You are not separate from The Pattern. Attunement is the practice of remembering that.
Follow the Pattern.
